Travel and tourism remains a key driver of economic revenue in the UK, with an estimated 37.9 million overseas visitors spending £2.9 billion last year. This betrays the unique and diverse appeal of the UK, which is home to a number of different cities that offer something to each and every traveller.

Make no mistake; there’s an entire world outside London, so we’ve selected three of the many cities that you can visit throughout the UK:

Peterborough
We start with the South East city of Peterborough, which may well be underrated amongst the citizens of the UK (and those further afield).
This is certainly one of the UK’s most historic cities, that’s renowned for the 12th century icon that is the Peterborough Cathedral. This stunning place of serenity and worship recently celebrated its 900th anniversary, whilst its unique gothic façade contributing to a truly fascinating piece of architecture.
The city is also home to the Ferry Meadows Country Park, which offers something to everyone with its beguiling nature trails, challenging cycle paths and towering woodland trees.
Peterborough is also a deceptively easy city to visit too, with tickets readily available from major destinations nationwide. Great Northern Rail also offer affordable tickets from London St. Pancreas to Peterborough routes , so enjoying a great day out here shouldn’t cost the earth.

Sheffield
Next up is the so-called ‘Steel City’, which was once home to the nation’s steel industry but has become known for many of the other delights that it offers to visitors. Its Botanical Gardens location is incredibly beautiful, for example, whilst the local Tropical Butterfly House offers one of the best days out in South Yorkshire. Here, you can encounter some of the most spectacular species of butterfly known to man, whilst also seeing animals such as lemurs, meerkats, owls, otters and even lizards! There’s no doubt that Sheffield is becoming an increasingly cool and contemporary city, and this is borne out by the number of vegan eateries available to the locals.

Manchester
No list of this type would be complete without Manchester, which has seen huge regeneration during the last two decades and remains on course to emerge as the UK strongest-performing cities through 2021.
This has created significant growth and opportunity within the region, meaning that there’s something for everyone to enjoy here whether they’re old, young or hard-core thrill-seekers. The Northern Quarter Shopping tour in Manchester is a must, for example, as is the city’s iconic ‘Hop-on, Hop-off’ Sightseeing Tour Bus.  If you like your soap-operas, you can also enjoy the classic Coronation Street tour, and delve behind the scenes at the UK’s longest-running television show.
