The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), popularly known as JEE Main, is an annual exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to shortlist students for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech)  at NITs, IIITs, and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes. JEE Mains is also a prerequisite for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), which is required for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Complex engineering calculations are built on the foundation of mathematics. The majority of questions in the Mathematics section of JEE exams revolve around formulas and their applications. However, you cannot excel in mathematics just by mugging up formulas. To do well in this section, you must master all key concepts and practice a lot. Your speed and accuracy will improve as you solve more questions and speed up your calculations.

Furthermore, as per the analysis of previous years’ papers, it has come to light that there are a few topics that carry higher weightage as compared to others. Therefore, you must pay attention to these topics as they can fetch you a good score in the exam.

On that note, let’s discuss a few important topics that should not be left by you at any cost.

Calculus

Due to its vastness and level of difficulty, this unit is critical for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. A  large number of questions are likely to appear from this topic on any engineering entrance exam. Therefore, If you have a firm foundation in integral and differential calculus, you won’t have to worry as much about JEE Mathematics section in JEE Mains exam.

Limits, Differentiability and Continuity, Relationship between Continuity and Differentiability, Differentiation, Integration, Maxima and Minima, Definite Integrals, and other subjects are covered in calculus.

Coordinate Geometry

This topic focuses on geometrical shapes such as circles, parabolas, and hyperbolas, among others. The majority of the questions in this unit revolve around the application of formulas, which makes it extremely interesting and a high-scoring unit for the majority of students.

This is the part where you can fetch maximum marks.  Go through parabola, circle, ellipse, straight lines, and hyperbola. However, a majority of questions are asked from Straight Lines and Circles.

With that said, you should be thorough with various topics relating to straight lines and circles which include Equations of a Line, Pair of Angles, the Centroid of a Triangle, Equation of a Circle, Tangent, Centre, Radius of a Circle and so on.

3D Geometry and Vectors

This is a very conceptual and complex topic. It carries almost the same weighting in JEE as Coordinate Geometry. It also includes complex numbers and some geometric elements. If you grasp certain sophisticated concepts like vectors and 3D geometry, you can easily score high in this part. Focus on developing a sound understanding of the fundamentals and use visualization to better grasp this topic.

Algebra

A highly engaging topic with certain key concepts such as logarithms, matrices, and determinants, as well as quadratic equations, are relatively simple to grasp and are among the favorites of many students. There were a few questions from Complex Number combined with vectors on several occasions in JEE Main and Advanced.

A few conceptual questions can be asked from Permutations and Combinations. Questions based on formulas are frequently asked in Sequence and Series and Binomial Theorem. As a result, by avoiding foolish mistakes, you should be able to easily score well in this part.

Trigonometry

It is one of the most significant JEE Main topics. Some of the most important topics to study are inverse trigonometry, trigonometric functions, and trigonometric ratios. Because this unit has a large number of problems, a JEE student who understands some basic trigonometric concepts would undoubtedly profit. You must memorize and relate all of the trigonometric formulas, ratios and identities, as well as their graphs and substitutions, in order to do well in this course.
