Everyone has their own favourite movie quote from a scene they particularly enjoyed watching. From Harry Potter to Disney, there are so many great and fabulous quotes that have become memorable over the years. Great movie quotes are lines that stay with the audience long after the movie credits roll. Movie quotes are also some of the lines that we might repeat time and time again to our friends, family, or colleagues. Over the years there certainly has been many famous movie quotes that have left a lasting impact on audiences.
“May the force be with you”
As perhaps one of the most well-known film quotes out there, “May the force be with you” was a phrase first used in the first Star Wars film released in 1977. Since then it has been made iconic over the years and has been used through many of the films in the Star Wars franchise, including Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker released in December last year. This quote is repeated by many people all over the world and is used as a blessing and as a message of good luck amongst fans. The quote became so popular that the fourth date of May is now celebrated and recognised by fans as ‘Star Wars Day’ (May the 4th).
“To infinity and beyond”
Back in 1995, what might have seemed like just a line in a film became iconic in the Toy Story franchise. Buzz Lightyear, played by Tim Allen, delivers this line as he jumps off Andy’s bedpost to prove that he can fly. Since the film release, this famous quote has been widely used around the world, on children’s t-shirts, and other film merchandise. The well-known phrase has even been used for book titles, for song lyrics, and even by real life astronauts! While testing experiments in zero gravity, astronauts used this phrase when sending a Buzz Lightyear figure into space.
“On Wednesdays, we wear pink”
One of the most quotable films from the 2000s is Mean Girls (2004) starring Lindsay Lohan. As Cady Heron, she joins Northshore High which is ruled by the A-list cliche ‘The Plastics’. When you join The Plastics there are many rules to follow, one of which being “On Wednesdays, we wear pink”. It has since become one of the most popular movie quotes and has been branded all over jumpers, tops, and sweaters. Some movie fans might even go as far as wearing pink on Wednesdays themselves! “ I am Groot”
As of 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has dominated the film industry with great comic book characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man. With film after film being so successful, there are many favourite moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans love. For Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) there is one quote that sticks in everyone’s mind: “I am Groot”. Voiced by Vin Diesel, the character ‘Groot’ is lacking immensely in the vocabulary of his speech and this worked tremendously for the character. “I am Groot” is not just one line from the loyal tree, it’s all the tree’s lines in the movie. Groot fast became an adorable sensation with fans, transforming the character into a celebrated figure in the MCU.
