With half of the world in lockdown due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is expected to be only a matter of time before the UK government announces even stricter quarantine routines in order to decrease the spread of the virus. Those of us who are currently able to work from home are doing so whilst much of the UKs over 70-year olds are relying on family members and friends to do their everyday routines for them.
Although these continue to be stressful times, there are still things you can do in order to remain positive both mentally and physically during your time in-doors.
Call loved ones and friends
If you are quarantined, then we cannot stress how important it is to have some form of social contact from time to time. Ideally you should talk to your friends or family by phone call, hearing the voice of your loved ones will alleviate stress. However, if for ever reason you cannot phone them, a Facebook message could be all it takes to help brighten up you or the other persons day. If you have a friend who you know is likely to be lonely, a message or nice word could make a huge difference in their lives.
But be careful, social media and other forms of news media can be stressful to watch. The hysteria from 24/7 news channels is the highest it has possibly ever been. If this affects you then try to stay away from it. Ask someone close to you to let you know if anything important changes in regard to the Coronavirus and the quarantine period.
Home fitness routine
Since we are likely to be quarantined for a while, it is important to stay healthy in mind and body. Extended periods without human interaction can be dangerous – humans are social creatures after all. Exercise is perhaps the best way in which to stay both physically and mentally healthy. As are routines. Even if you are working home, try not to be lazy and stick to your normal work routines. If you usually have a shower in the morning before work, keep doing that; we would also recommend you dress as if you are going into the office.
Exercise is vital and if you are required to stay indoors, you will not get much exercise other than walking to and from the coffee machine. Jeff Cavaliere has become a world-famous fitness trainer thanks to his helpful YouTube videos. His channel provides you with completely free fitness routines. As the Coronavirus is a worldwide epidemic, Cavaliere is aware that many of us have been told against going to the gym so he has brought out a fitness routine that anyone can do from home. You can check out his home fitness routine video here.
Netflix
Can you remember life without Netflix? It was hell wasn’t it. Fortunately, Netflix won’t go anywhere whilst quarantine is advisable. Netflix offer customers thousands of films, documentaries, TV shows and TV series to stream via their laptop or tablet devices! A basic Netflix membership will cost you £5.99 per month – offering you huge value for money. The Netflix library has something for all ages and interests. From World War 2 documentaries and other documentaries to Hollywood movies and binge worthy TV series such as Breaking Bad and The Witcher.
If you have found yourself cursing the TV for its lack of good shows whilst you have been in quarantine then we urge you to get a Netflix membership ASAP, you will not be disappointed!
Visit the online bingo halls and casino lobbies
Bingo halls have been a part of British culture for decades. Go back several decades ago and every bingo hall in Britain would be filled out every Friday night. Buzz and Mecca are the most well-known and frequented bingo halls in Sheffield and although the Coronavirus will stop you from visiting them, you do have alternatives. Just because you cannot go outside doesn’t mean you can’t still play bingo! As long asyou have an internet connection and a laptop then you can play a number of different bingo games right from your living room. In fact, the online world is rich full of various super fun games.
Casino games are also available to be played online. Thousands of UK online slot games can be played on PlayFrank, an online casino for UK players. The PlayFrankgames library also contains casino classics such as blackjack and roulette. The majority of casino and bingo websites offer welcome bonuses to new customers, so you can begin playing without having to put any of your own money at risk. Whether you play using your own money or not, remember to gamble responsibly. Don’t forget, bingo and casino games are meant to be fun and never wager more than you can afford to lose. Many bingo sites offer players the chance to play for free!
Read a book
If you’re like me then you will have a book that you really want to read, and you keep telling people you will read once you get some spare time. Well guess what, now’s your chance; and mine. I have already started reading Brother Karamazov by Dostoevsky and I am determined to finish it – I have no more excuses not to after all!
Reading is a past time that has been proven to reduce stress, increase knowledge and give you numerous other benefits. The fast-paced lives we now live in the 21st century often makes it hard to find time to sit down with a good book but now you have the chance. If you followed our earlier advice and downloaded Netflix, maybe you can watch Netflix after you come home from work and then give yourself a good hour of reading before you go to bed.
