“The Music of the Spheres World Tour” is Coldplay’s 8th career tour, which started in 2022. They’ve successfully extended their fixtures through 2023, 24 and now the tour, which was initially supposed to be wrapped up in November 2024, has also been extended to 2025.
Their recent extension came with a lot of changes in the sense that the tour was initially planned to end in Eden Park, located in Auckland, New Zealand, on the 16th of November 2024. But as it stands, Coldplay will be wrapping up their “Music of the Spheres World Tour” in London’s Wembley Stadium, England, which has a concert capacity of 115k people.
The fact that Coldplay chose to wrap up their tour in Wembley Stadium made us look into their career track record to study the relationship they have with Wembley Stadium. The British band became active in 1997 and has dropped 10 career albums, including “Moon Music,” released in 2024, and also headlined 8 career tours, including the “Music of the Spheres World Tour.”
Looking through their track record, Coldplay’s very beginning was in London. Their formation and also their first gig to a live audience were all in London. They began creating some waves online from the streets of Camden, which is located in the London Borough of Camden.

18th-19th September – 2009: “Viva La Vida Tour”
To begin with, we went back as far as 2009, during Coldplay’s 4th career tour, “Viva La Vida,” which began in 2008. This may not be the first time Coldplay visited the Wembley Stadium since they became active in the music industry, but it’s perfect to begin with.
Number of Gigs
During the “Viva La Vida Tour” in Europe in 2009, Coldplay scheduled 2 gigs for their fans in Wembley Stadium. They had visited England a couple of times before their show in Wembley, like in 2008 on November 29th, December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. All shows were held in Sheffield and Birmingham, with the whole of the December 2008 gigs held in the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham.
Opening Acts
Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida Tour” had a lot of opening acts, but their gigs in the Wembley Stadium were opened by Jay-Z, Girls Aloud, and White Lies. At that time, the album associated with the tour was “Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends,” and also Coldplay’s 7th EP, “Prospekt’s March.”

Coldplay organised a total of 4 gigs in the Wembley Stadium during the “A Head Full of Dreams Tour” in 2016. The dates were on the 15th, 16th, 18th, and 19th of June, 2016. Just like during the “Viva La Vida Tour,” Coldplay had visited England before their gigs in the Wembley Stadium. And as usual, their Wembley gig took a lot of fans in.
Opening Acts
The opening acts of Coldplay’s Wembley gigs amidst the “A Head Full of Dreams Tour” were 4. These were Lianne La, Havas, Alessia Cara, and Reef. They each presented their genre of songs to the Wembley audience, but none went far off Coldplay’s “A Head Full of Dreams” album, which was associated with the tour, and also their 13th career EP, “Kaleidoscope EP.”

The “Music of the Spheres World Tour” has more opening acts than other tours in Coldplay’s timeline of gigs in the Wembley Stadium. Their gigs were opened occasionally by H.E.R., Griff, London Grammar, Ibibio Sound Machine, and Laura Mvula. These 5 made the opening shows of Coldplay’s Wembley gigs amazing for all.
Attendance
Based on the attendance record shared by Coldplay, more than 77k people made it to their gigs in the Wembley Stadium for the 6 nights they were there. This brought the total attendance to 464,839 people, making their 3rd visit the one with the highest recorded attendance so far in the Wembley Stadium.
22nd August – 8th September: “Music of the Spheres World Tour”
Coldplay will be visiting Wembley Stadium for the 4th time according to this article in 2025 for the last leg of the “Music of the Spheres World Tour.” The concerts will start on the 22nd of August and end on the 8th of September, making this the greatest number of gigs that they’ve organised for their fans in London’s Wembley Stadium.
Until then, we’ll pause this article here and update it when they’re done with their 10 gigs. Opening acts are yet to be announced, but the gigs are surely going to be held in the Wembley Stadium. And we anticipate this is going to contain also the greatest number of Coldplayers in Wembley Stadium since the beginning of their career.
