Are you new to skincare? If so, congratulations on taking the first step in improving your skin! This post will give you six tips to help get you started. Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. Be patient and experiment until you find what works best for you. Enjoy!

Different Skin Types Means Different Products

The first tip on this list, which is probably one of the most important, is that everyone has a different skin type, in case you weren’t aware. Each skin type has its characteristics and sets of challenges, which you need to know to take good care of your skin. For example,

  • Dry skin: Dry skin is almost always caused by things such as immersion in hot water, weather, or low air humidity. Most of the time, it is temporary, but it can be a lifelong condition. If you have dry skin, you should try an oil-based moisturizer.
  • Sensitive skin: Sensitive skin, otherwise known as irritated skin, is a skin type that is prone to allergic reactions and infections due to being fragile and losing its barrier function. This type of skin requires specific moisturizers and face washes from the highest quality brands available on the market, like Misumi Skincare, that won’t upset it.
  • Oily skin: Oily skin is mainly caused by an overproduction of fat by the sebaceous glands, which can either be hormonal or genetic in cause. It is best to use a water-based moisturizer for this type of skin.
  • Combination skin: As the name would suggest, combination skin is a skin type that is both affected by oiliness and dryness. Usually, the skin on your cheeks will be dry, whereas the T-zone will be oily.
  • Normal skin: If you are lucky, you will have normal skin, which doesn’t require any special attention, but should still be looked after.

Don’t Exfoliate Too Much

The next tip on this list for people new to skincare is to not exfoliate too much. A big mistake that many people make is assuming that exfoliating as often as possible is good for the skin when in reality, it can cause more problems.

This is because when you exfoliate too much, you can destroy the protective skin barrier, which makes your skin more susceptible to infections. After all, dirt and bacteria can easily get in. In terms of how often you should exfoliate, it’s recommended that you only exfoliate around twice a week.

Moisturize While Your Face is Damp

Even if you are new to skincare, you probably have a good idea of what moisturizers are and what they do. If not, you should moisturize every day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Moisturizing gives your skin some moisture and keeps it looking healthy.

One thing that most people don’t know, however, is that you should try to moisturize when your face is still slightly damp. This doesn’t mean applying the moisturizer directly after washing your face; dab it slightly with a towel first. The reason you should do this is that it helps with absorption.

Avoid Touching Your Face

Another lesser-known tip, which is quite simple once you begin implementing it, is to avoid touching your face. Throughout the day, you touch things with your hands, which results in dirt and bacteria being transferred to them.

Then when you touch your face, that dirt and bacteria are transferred to it too, which can be a big problem if you have sensitive skin. By reducing the number of times you touch your face, you reduce the amount of dirt and bacteria that are transferred.

Don’t Use Too Many Products

In addition to not touching your face, you should also keep the number of products you use on your skin to a bare minimum. Many people don’t quite understand just how sensitive the skin is, and using too many products can cause more harm than good.

Did you know that using too many products can lead to worsened breakouts, irritation, redness, and dryness? Try to keep the number of products that you use to around 3 or a maximum of 4, just to be safe.
