The high temperature and blazing sun can make summer days unbearable. Whether you are indoors or outdoors, you will be losing a lot of body fluid so you should stay hydrated. You can hydrate by drinking water, caffeinated drinks, juices, milk, and teas.

Instead of buying ready-made drinks, you should consider making healthy drinks on your own. Below are some recipes for summer drinks that you should try…

Cold Brewed Coffee

There are different ways of brewing coffee like brewing it with cold water. Using cold water makes it an ideal drink to cool down during the summer. The coffee will be less bitter and acidic since cold water does not extract the acidic flavor. Making this coffee is simple and cheaper compared to buying the ready-to-drink cold coffee. You need 1/4 cup of coarse ground coffee and 1-cup cold water to prepare the brew.

To prepare freshly ground coffee, you will need a good coffee grinder. Mix the water and the coffee grounds in a mason jar for a minute then place the jar in your fridge to steep for 12 to 20 hours. After the steeping hours, pour the concentrate over a mesh strainer to strain it then over a coffee filter. The filtrate will be highly concentrated so you should add cold water or milk. Serve it chilled and flavoured by adding ice and honey.

Chocolate Coffee Smoothie

This drink is a nutritious and delicious way to take your coffee in the morning and during the day. To make a chocolate coffee smoothie, you need a slightly frozen banana, 2 tbsp. of instant coffee, and 2 tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, 3 tbsp. of sugar and cup milk and a ½ cup of ice. Preparation is easy. You just mix all the ingredients in a blender until they are all smooth. You can serve your glass of chocolate coffee smoothie garnished with coconut flakes or with whipped cream.

Lemon Ice Tea

Lemon iced tea is the best drink to have in the hot summer afternoon. You can make it black or green tea, lemon, sugar, and water. Start by heating a litre of water mixed with 9 tbsp. of sugar and freshly squeezed lemon until the sugar dissolves. Remove the pot before the water boils then boil another pot of water with tea leaves. Once it boils, strain it then mix it with the lime sugar mixture in a bottle or jar then place it in your fridge for some hours to cool before serving.

Tropical Party Punch

This is a non-alcoholic cocktail drink is made of fruits. To make it, you need mango nectar, 4 tbsp. sweetened lime juice, a can of pineapple juice, some coconut cream, maraschino cherries, ice, soda water, and three tbsp. of grenadine and seltzer water. Blend all the fruits and extract until they are completely mixed, then store the mixture in a fridge until it is chilled. To serve, you should fill your glass with ice, pour the blended mix to fill 2/3 of the glasses then add a splash of seltzer water and grenadine.
