Established by two Nottingham Trent Graduates back in 2009, sustainable clothing company White Rose is a charity shop offering handpicked recycled fashion and quality high street brands at an affordable price. With seven shops in the Midlands, White Rose is expanding and heading up north for the first time, opening WR9 on Ecclesall Road when restrictions lift this month.

If you’ve been taking a stroll down Ecclesall Road lately, you may have noticed the arrival of a new clothing shop – it’s hard to miss when the exterior walls are painted candyfloss pink.

The eye-catching building is set to open on 12 April, as long as the easing of lockdown runs smoothly. Hannah Vernon, WR9 social media head, expressed their excitement to be opening a store in this popular Sheffield area: “We absolutely love the vibes of Ecclesall Road; it has a great atmosphere and lots of independent shops, which we are a great supporter of. We can’t wait to see the road come alive when lockdown lifts and are sure we will be very successful there.”

White Rose will be opening its doors on Ecclesall Road next week.

White Rose is not your typical charity shop. Every item of clothing found in the store are pieces of “handpicked recycled fashion” – no two garments look the same. It aims to offer an affordable alternative to fast fashion, marketing themselves as an ethical and sustainable clothing brand. From vintage clothing and designer couture to your favourite high street brands, White Rose provides their customers with an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ shopping experience with hidden gems aplenty.

There will only be two full time staff members working at the Sheffield Shop: Jess, the manager; and Lucy, the assistant manager. All other members of staff will be hired on a voluntary basis, allowing the public to gain work experience and support a good cause in the Aegis Trust, a global organisation working that works to restore peace by preventing genocide and mass atrocities.

The lifting of lockdown restrictions has so far gone to plan, so the opening of WR9 on the 12 April 2021 looks promising. “It’s been great being able to focus on getting the shop perfect as it is our first in Sheffield we wanted to wow our customers. Our team have been amazing too and worked so hard to get the shop ready,” Hannah adds on the difficulties of setting up a new store in the middle of a pandemic.
