Leading amateur theatre group The Tudor Players are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, and to commemorate they’re putting on a very special season.
The Sheffield-based company, founded March 3rd 1967, have performed the majority of their 110+ shows at the Library Theatre covering a wide range of genres and various reproductions over the years.
After their last performance “Comfort and Joy” in February, there are two more productions in the works for this year. Coming up from May 16th-20th is a stage adaptation of Noël Coward’s “Brief Encounter,” a classic tale about the doomed love affair between suburban housewife Laura and idealistic young doctor Alec. For this production 8 new members have been added to the original cast of 21 and the original songs by Coward will be conducted by Jill and Steve Hepple.
Ending the season from October 17th – 21st the Players will be performing wartime classic “Goodnight Mister Tom,” the story of a WW2 evacuee boy and the friendship he forms with the old man who takes him in. The novel has been adapted for the stage by David Wood and was also adapted into a popular TV series in 1998.
