Sheffield Theatres announces Together Too: a programme of activity supporting creative projects across a number of local community groups in and around Sheffield.
Through exhibitions, installations and workshops, Sheffield Theatres will create a celebratory community takeover across these two days, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of July, in and around the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse.
Projects on Friday 28 July will explore Stories of the City, with creative activities for mature participation such as presentations from community theatre companies, writers’ groups and choirs, with sharing events scheduled at Sheffield Theatres from 1 pm until 8.30 pm.
Friday’s contributors will include The Norfolk Park Arbourthorne Men’s Group, The Furnival, Side By Side Theatre Company, Sheffield’s Dementia Friendly Choir, Sheffield People’s Theatre, Shipshape, Stand and Be Counted Theatre Company and Mappin Street Writers Group.
More of a family-friendly takeover will take part on Saturday 29 July, around the theme of City of Dreams. Between 10 am and 9 pm, diverse creative workshops, including building your own city of dreams, paper craft, baton-making, live music, drag and stand-up comedy, will delight the visitors and turn it into an unforgettable experience.
Also, a programme of performances will run in the Playhouse including dance, theatre, film, new writing and a fantasy costume catwalk.
Saturday’s contributors will be, among others, CHILYPEP, Know Your Place Youth Club, Manor After School Kids’ Klub, Pinder Dance Productions, SAGE (Support Arts Gardening Education), and S2 Womens Creative Group.
‘Together Too is a legacy – a legacy of our incredible Together In The City programme and festival in 2021-22, but especially of the brilliant, beautiful and dynamic work of the community groups we’ve been proud to engage with across the city in 2023’ adds Simon Marshall, Community Engagement Officer at Sheffield Theatres.
‘This two-day festival is for Sheffield to feel a sense of belonging of its theatres – of its stages, spaces and stories. It’s a programme of work co-created with participants of all ages, from across the seven hills and beyond. From our more mature work on Friday, through to our family takeover on Saturday, we truly hope there’s something for everyone. We’d love to have you along. It’s a party. It’s for you… and it’s free!’
Together Too is a creative programme supported by Graham and Sue Royle through their business, GRI Group Ltd., whose funding has enabled wider development of Sheffield Theatres’ participation projects within local communities.
