The Leadmill presents “Studio Orchestra” at The Crucible, a project focused on developing and orchestrating the original music of Yorkshire-based musical talent, and will “merge various genres of music with contemporary classical music like you’ve never heard it before.” This is a project in collaboration with Arts Council England, who provided funding.
The event has been running since November of last year and this show on the 14th May marks the culmination of a series of workshops alongside Sheffield composer, George Morton and Sheffield music hub’s senior orchestra, alongside various local musicians.
The experience includes performances from August Charles, Nathaniel Short, Rumbi Tauro, April-Ess and Curtis Charles, as well as members of the Sheffield Children in Care Council and Care Leavers Union, who will continue the development of their successful spoken word anthology of “The Can in Can’t”.
The Leadmill say, “We’re so excited to be leading this completely new venture that will help us to closely assist in the development of some outstanding talent that is currently based in Yorkshire, as well as being a fantastic opportunity for us to reconnect with the classical music scene in Sheffield.”
