A joint collaboration between University of Sheffield and Zongo Music, The Calabash – a term for artefacts made from the hard shell of a fruit in Africa – is an upcoming evening event celebrating the best of West African film, music, art and culture.

Taking place at the Workstation, Paternoster Row, guests will be greeted from 7pm with a tradition African bazaar selling a variety of crafts and wares.

At 8pm there will be a showing of Growing Up Colonial in the Gold Coast, a new short doc from the University of Sheffield’s Dr. Afua Twum-Danso Imoh.

Following the film there will be a number of live performances, with afrofuturistic grooves from Onipa, West African rhythms from KOG (KOG & The Zongo Brigade) and an acoustic performance from Tom Excell of afrobeat, dub and jazz 10-piece Nubiyan Twist.
