Sheffield’s famous music spot The Boardwalk is finally set to re-open – as a drum and bass nightclub.
Snig Hill’s long-standing venue, which was immortalised by the Arctic Monkeys in 2004 as the name of the band’s collection of demos, has been advertised for rent since 2016 and has faced a series of failed-re-openings over the past few years.
Opening this Friday (5 October), Bassbox promises to “supply the best in jungle, jump up and rollers” as the “only drum and bass nightclub in Sheffield”.

The club has been an important part of Sheffield’s music history since the 1960s when The Clash, AC/DC, Status Quo and Genesis played the venue – known locally as the “Mucky Duck”. The venue played an important part in the local music scene too, with the likes of Milburn, Little Man Tate and Arctic Monkeys gigging there in the mid 2000s.
