Kes, released in 1969, was directed by Ken Loach and based on the 1968 novel ‘A Kestrel for a Knave’, written by South Yorkshire author Barry Hines, whose recently recovered play about the Battle of Orgreave will be brought to life this weekend.
Speaking about the event, Dai said: “The story of Billy Casper is a simple one; a young boy from a working class background whose life prospects are minimal. A latch key kid, bullied at school, misunderstood and a loner as a consequence, who finds a kestrel chick and against the odds rears and trains her like a falconer.”
Shortly before the film starts, Dai will be taking a few questions from the audience before introducing the film at 8pm. Tickets range from £8 (adult) to £25 (family ticket for two adults and two kids), and are available from Eventbrite.
