Showroom Cinema in Sheffield is this month welcoming the return of South Yorkshire’s major anime festival: Sheffield Loves Anime, for a second year.
The festival, which will take place from Friday 18 November to Sunday 20 November, will have a packed film programme, brimming with cult and contemporary anime alongside introductions and Q&As, offering informative insight into the world of anime.
Anime features old and new will grace the screens of Showroom, including classics such as the 25th anniversary of Perfect Blue, modern releases like Goodbye, Don Glees! and Blue Thermal, a premiere of the anticipated Eureka Seven High Evolution 3, and a premiere of the 4K restoration of Millennium Actress.
Hope Cook, who has programmed the festival with the support of Anime LTD and Scottish anime festival Scotland Loves Anime, said:
“We’re really excited to bring these classic and contemporary examples of Anime film to Showroom Cinema for the second edition of Sheffield Loves Anime.
Audiences can gain insight into a selection of the films through introductions by Sheffield School of East Asian Studies Academics, such as Dr. Jennifer Coates, a senior lecturer who focuses on Japanese Studies, Film Studies, History, History of Art, and Anthropology. Also speaking is Professor Kate Taylor-Jones, who is the editor editor-in-chief of The East Asian Journal of Popular Culture and has been published on colonial Japanese and Korean cinema, footware and contemporary Korean cinema, girlhood on film and the representation of the sex trade in global cinema.
The festival organisers are also planning stalls and activities to take place in Showroom’s café bar, and a selection of secret screenings are also expected to take place as part of the event.
