It’s almost that time of the year again. The trees are blooming, the days are getting longer, and the Sheffield Doc/Fest is on its way. For another year, Doc/Fest will celebrate the art of non-fiction story-telling and act as a platform for the work of numerous filmmakers and artists. The UK’s leading documentary festival will be back once again this year between June 6 and 11, with a range of films, events, and speakers lined up.
The festival will bring filmmakers and filmgoers together from many different parts of the world as a documentary hub, and will celebrate human experience and the diverse perspectives of individuals behind the camera lens. There will be a variety of events across five programme areas: film, alternate realities, talks, marketplace and social. All five programmes are carefully curated, with the aim of inspiring audiences through the narratives and discussions available, bringing both the films and their creators closer to their viewers.
As June is approaching, Doc/Fest has revealed their first headliner to be investigative journalist Stacey Dooley. Dooley’s work has turned her into a household name after her success of ‘Stacey Dooley Investigates’ and her success on ‘’BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing’’. Dooley has been an active advocate for women’s rights and has a list of remarkable achievements. Her documentaries, which were showcased on BBC3 a decade ago, offered an insight to domestic violence, drug abuse and child migration and her book debut ‘On the Front Line with the Women Who Fight Back’ reflects on her encounters with the brave women featured in her films. Currently, Dooley works as the new contributing editor for Investigations at ‘’Grazia’’ magazine.
Dooley will appear on June 10 at the Crucible Theatre where she will partake on a high-profile BBC interview. During the interview she will be talking about her upcoming projects including the arms trade and American vigilantism. As the first headliner Stacey Dooley has already set promising expectations for rest of the festival’s guest speakers. Visitors should certainly expect a series of insightful and inspiring discussions and talks. The full line-up for Sheffield Doc/Fest will be revealed on May 9.
