The announcements are out: Sheffield Doc/Fest will be welcoming BAFTA-award winning actor, Vicky McClure, motorcycle racer, mechanic and TV personality Guy Martin, as well as filmmaker, author and critic for the Guardian, Mark Cousins as headline speakers this summer.
Nottingham-born Vicky, will give a talk on dementia and music therapy, including her upcoming documentary ‘Vicky McClure: My Dementia Choir’. She gained personal experience of dementia through caring for her grandmother.
Grimbsy-hailing Guy will be discussing his love for “engineering, big builds and the thrill of speed” in the Channel 4 Interview. The final headliner, Mark, who was born in Coventry and now lives in Scotland, will examine how filmmakers manipulate our ‘looking selves’ both in terms of film and the world at large, followed by a Q&A.
For the uninitiated, Doc/Fest is a celebration of the “art and business of documentary and non-fiction storytelling” in all its forms, including film, series, audio, interactive technology, augmented reality, virtual reality and live events. And it’s kind of a big deal, welcoming over 32,000 people each year.
Sheffield Doc/Fest CEO Liz McIntyre said: “I am thrilled to announce these exceptional Northern-based talents as speakers, whose deeply held convictions compel them to speak with authenticity and passion through documentary film.”
