Sheffield Contemporary, an artistic and cultural centre based in the 100-year-old Abbeydale Picture House, is looking for artistic patrons and funders to help ensure to the long-term success of the venue.
Located in the theatre room at the old venue, the brand new art space features a gallery, bookshop and bar within the restored Grade II-listed building. The gallery recently held their first exhibition ‘Behind the Scenes’, featuring a spectrum of twelve cutting edge motion artists from all over Europe, and will be hosting a launch party for the second artists showreel of their debut show on May 13. On a budget of just £1000, young architects Louis Koseda and Sam Atkinson worked with Creative Director Sebastian Koseda to get the gallery up and running. After the trio found that the iconic space hadn’t been used consistently for 100 years they set about on a passion project to restore it, joining forces with local arts charity CADS towards the restoration of the building.
Many people have donated tools, time and materials to help the group achieve their goal of restoring this historically important venue, but they now require more people to get in touch to help with the next steps.
