Sheffield Cathedral Illuminated, the spectacular annual light show at Sheffield Cathedral is returning for its third year. The light show has rapidly become one of the must-see Christmas traditions in Sheffield. Entitled The Manger, this year’s show runs from 29 November to 4 December, with early bird ticket prices are available until midnight on Sunday 9 October.
The immersive experience is not to be missed and is the perfect way to celebrate the true meaning of Advent and Christmas. Everyone will get to see a full son-et-lumiere (night-time sound and light show) on the facade of the Cathedral and then a second show inside the building. Visitors will also be able to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies from the cathedral cafe, purchase Christmas gifts from the shop and light a candle for loved ones. The family event was enjoyed by nearly 10,000 people last year.
This year, Sheffield Cathedral’s light show is supported by Utilita Energy Hub. Ben Rossi, Development Manager at the Cathedral says: “We’re delighted to be working with the team at Utilita Energy Hub. Their support has allowed us to not only offer an ‘early bird’ discount ticket for a period of time but it has also helped to keep ticket prices similar to last year.
“More than 1,500 tickets have been sold already and I urge anyone seeing this to take advantage of the early bird offer before it ends this weekend.”
The team at Utilita Energy Hub couldn’t wait to get involved: “From our vantage point we see all the good things the cathedral does for community.” says Hub Manager Callum Slavin. “We understand it’s difficult at the moment, so being able to contribute to the event in this way made sense to us. Whatever people need we are here.”
The Cathedral is once again partnering with award winning Luxmuralis. Previous shows at Christmas by Luxmuralis have been ‘The Beginning’ (2021), and ‘The Angels are Coming’ (2019). Both were resounding successes bringing thousands of visitors into the city centre to see the splendour of the Cathedral transformed inside and out.
Peter Walker, the show creator said: “We are delighted to return for our third Christmas show at the Cathedral. For many the illuminations have become a tradition for Sheffield, bringing people of all ages and all backgrounds together in the heart of the city. The Manger is a beautiful production which we are sure will get people in the mood for Christmas celebrations this year.”
Tickets for Sheffield Cathedral Illuminated: The Manger can be bought via the Cathedral’s website or in person from the Cathedral Gift Shop. Early Bird ticket offer ends midnight 9 October.
