Get your dancing shoes on! Salsa in the Square is due to return next month with the first event of 2019 taking place, of course, at Leopold Square.

The salsa extravaganzas are expected to welcome a large crowd due to it popularity as the region’s largest outdoor salsa event. So far, two events have been lined up to take place on the two May Bank Holiday weekends. Both events will offer a free, 9-hour dance spectacular, and will host spectacular headliners from the Latin circuit.

The first Salsa In the Square, which takes place on Sunday, May 5th will feature seven-piece Raices Cubana led by virtuoso violinist and musical director Omar Puente – winner of the renowned Lukas Award in 2017. His band performs a stunning blend of Cuban son, charanga with an infusion of Afro-Cuban jazz.

The second Salsa In The Square event – lined up for Sunday, May 26th – is headlined by six-piece Timba De Cuba who offer a unique Latin mix of sounds that span salsa, Latin, jazz, funk and son. The band infuses original numbers with songs from some of the best Latin Grammy composers including Tony Perez and Luz Viajara. In addition, the event will also feature a special guest, Barcelona-based DJ Anna De Orte.

Both events will take place outside in Leopold Square from 5pm until 10pm and will then move into Cubana for a Barrio Latino Bank Holiday Special Fiesta to continue the festivities.
