Mid-week madness down at The Leadmill was a complete treat thanks to the Liverpool legend Danny Beard and their band.
As I enter the room, the mainstage is decked out for a night of high camp performance with a crowd buzzing as they await their entertainer.
Danny enters the stage with a bang and a warm steel-city welcome smoothly transitioning into ‘Left Outside Alone’ by Anastacia, making this our first song of the night.
As the track finishes, Danny launches into roasting our audience who are clearly ready to submit to Danny’s hijinks and tomfoolery, telling the audience “Two truths, and a lie – I’m happy to be in Sheffield” while taking a drag of their vape.
Danny enters the audience for the first time of the night telling one of the lucky punters “touch me I’m on the telly” shortly after heading back to the stage to take a tequila shot to “get through this Sheffield show”.
Throughout the show we hear shady remarks against other drag race queens such as Cheddar Gorgeous and Ginger Johnson who I’m sure would have bellowed out the same level of laughs as the audience did if they had also joined us on this night.
The audience can barely pause for breath as Danny throws zinger after zinger towards us while each and every one of us howl and belly laugh uncontrollably.
Through the show Danny audience interaction is absolutely impeccable. Each and every gender and sexuality is recognised and praised with love and even the very few who are heterosexual in the audience are also welcome, even if the remarks were slightly shady.
We see plenty of covers from musical legends throughout their set including Adele, Raye and Dolly Parton, but Danny knows what us gays have been waiting for in the audience and delivers us a cover of Kylie’s ‘Love at First Sight’.
What a brilliant way to end a pristine performance!
