Ahead of his biggest exhibition to date, Sheffield artist Pete McKee has announced a series of additional build-up events to complement the show.
The three events form part of Pete McKee’s latest exhibition ‘This Class Works’ – an exploration and celebration of the working class, which is showing at 92 Burton Road from 14 – 29 July.
First up is a tribute to an old-school WMC at Crookes Social Club on July 15. Celebrating the golden age of night life there will be Pete’s own band, The Everly Pregnant Brothers , magician Steve Faulkner and a special guest doing the turns. Naturally, there will also be bingo and a meat raffle to get involved with.
On Tuesday 17 July head down to the Showroom Cinema to catch a screening of Ken Loach’s The Spirit of ’45. Using film from Britain’s regional and national archives, alongside sound recordings and contemporary interviews to create a rich political and social narrative, director Ken Loach aims to illuminate and celebrate a period of unprecedented community spirit in the UK.
Finally, on Saturday 28 July join the The Works Tour and explore Sheffield’s own riverside island, where Sheffield’s reputation as the Steel City was forged. The walk is in association with ‘Sheffield Walking Tours’ and will take you past historical factories, industrial machinery and through the transformation of the area into Sheffield’s cutting edge cultural and residential district.
