Theatre company HandleBards will be peddling into Heeley People’s Park in Sheffield this August, accompanied by their brand-new sister company Slapstick Picnic.
The quirky theatre company get their name from their choice to travel by bike in an effort to promote a sustainable and healthy lifestyle, and their unique take on Shakespeare’s classics. The group say:
“If you’ve never seen Shakespeare before, there’s no better introduction. If you’re a Bard buff, you’ve never seen it done like this.”
Performances of two classic plays, Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, will take place on 17th and 19th August respectively. Both shows are suitable for adults and children aged 8 years and above, with no booking required.
The shows are part of a programme of events and activities being delivered by Heeley Trust in partnership with HandleBards and Heeley Plus Primary Care Network to increase the range of local community-led wellbeing and social prescribing activities available after Covid-19. Social prescribing enables health care professionals to refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services to support their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Macbeth will take place at Heeley People’s Park on Tuesday 17th August at 7pm.
The Importance of Being Earnest will take place at Heeley People’s Park on Thursday 19th August at 7pm.
