The striking new trailer for the Slow Club documentary, Our Most Brilliant Friends, arrives ahead of its release in UK cinemas on June 14th.
The film will be released through Ourscreen, the crowdsourced cinema platform. To mark the theatrical release, the documentary will also be premiered in the band’s home territory of Sheffield, where they’ve added an extra date at Vue Cinema, followed by screenings in Liverpool, London, Bristol and Leeds. Fans can then host their own screenings of the film through Ourscreen at their local cinema from June 14th.
During the count-down to the release of this highly anticipated documentary, fans of Slow Club have been treated to the announcement of an additional screening date, where Rebecca Taylor will be attending to join the Q&A.
Charles Watson and Rebecca Lucy Taylor (now Self Esteem) were Slow Club for 10 years, but since the split, they have both released critically-acclaimed solo albums. Our Most Brilliant Friends is the stunning feature debut from director Piers Dennis, who captures, along with another close friend, what would become their final tour as Slow Club in 2016.
The film features intimate access to Charles and Rebecca on the road during the tour, with an insight into their conflicting attitudes towards artistic purpose and the success of the band, something which would eventually push them apart. Ultimately exploring the pressures and frailties of their relationship, partnered with the boredom of road life, Dennis authentically captures and presents the moments leading up to the separation of the band. Our Most Brilliant Friends, importantly, asks the question ‘is this the end of the band and their friendship?’ And, if so, what does the future hold if both of these things are left behind?
