One of South Yorkshire’s longest standing framing and art shops, The Framery, on Sharrow Vale Road, has been helping Sheffield residents make the most of their wall space since 1981, and hot on the heels of opening a second shop in the Peak District, they have branched out once again, opening a new shop on Hillsborough’s thriving independent high street.

Just like their Sharrow Vale Road and Ashbourne stores, the new Hillsborough site will offer bespoke picture framing, ready-made frames, and contemporary art from well-known and local artists, as well as greetings cards. The Hillsborough site will also specialise in flower preservation, allowing you to keep those special-occasion flowers forever.

The shop is owned by brother and sister-team Emilio (pictured above) and Gabriella Arciello, who bought The Framery on Sharrow Vale Road from its original owners in 2018. Since then, they have opened a second shop in Ashbourne and felt the time was now right to expand further in their home city of Sheffield.

Emilio puts us in the picture as to why they chose Hillsborough: “We like the area.” says Emilio, “It’s far enough away from our original shop to not encroach on it and we just had the opportunity with this particular store.

“It’s nice to be involved in another local area that we’ve not really got any presence in already. With places like Annie Jude’s, The Orange Bird, Molly’s and more opening recently, it’s made the area even more vibrant and we just want to get involved and show people what we can do.”

The Framery’s offering aims to be simple, but there are many different options when it comes to getting the right frame to make your artwork pop, and that’s before you get to having the expertise to actually complete the job. Thankfully, the team at The Framery has decades of experience creating that perfect fit.

Framing is a complicated process then, but Emilio tells us that you can frame pretty much anything! “We’ve had a pair of Jessica Ennis’s shoes to frame; We’ve framed Banksy’s, lots of coats, we’ve just framed an army jacket recently, and we’ve done some really crazy stuff over the years. You can bring in anything you want, and we’ll have a go.”

The Framery takes over from another framing and art shop, Curo Gallery, in 193 Middlewood Road, and following a refurb and rebrand, they opened the new store a little over three weeks ago.

Emilio said: “The shop’s really coming together now; We’ve made it a bit brighter and we’ve modernised the framing offering and put in a new shop front with a nice big window.

“We’re all really excited and happy to be here.”

The Framery in Hillsborough is open Wednesday – Sunday, from 10am – 4pm. Check them out on Insta here.
