Sheffield singer-songwriter Lauren Housley has a new music project launching next month where she will join the Northern Cowboys, fellow Sheffield musicians Thomas Dibb and Mark Lewis (with a six-piece live band).

Lauren Housley is an award-winning musician with multiple BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles, an Americana Music award and bills shared with Van Morrison, Jack Soveretti and First Aid Kit – as well as being a mother of two.

The new band was recently unveiled at Black Deer Festival to a lot of hype. They have built a studio in Sheffield and recorded their debut album ‘Something More’ there, ensuring that Sheffield is at the heart of this project. Their first single, ‘High Time’ comes out in August and is a brilliantly composed slice of modern Yorkshire soul, all blazing trumpets, classic organs and soaring choruses.

Lauren told Exposed: “Our first single is ‘High Time’, which was written as a wakeup call to the environmental challenges that we are facing, it’s my way of getting the message out…’we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it!’. I hope it empowers people to make a positive change.”

Lauren Housley and the Northern Cowboys will also be heading out on a ‘Social Club’ tour of the UK later in the year, taking a 1980s social club set with them as they recreate that vibe in venues across the country.

“There’s something magical about witnessing a full band bouncing off each other musically. It brings a certain collective energy and excitement to a live show and to my own performance – I love it and I love losing myself onstage in those moments!”

The music is uplifting, bold and classic soul-inspired that would be as at home on the iconic Stax Records roster as it would be on the stages of the South Yorkshire social clubs she grew up around – think Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats!

The tour starts in October in Basingstoke and finishes in November in Lincolnshire. Tour dates and tickets are available here.
