Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) has launched its second guide to Sheffield’s best independent businesses in the hopes of making Sheffield a more vibrant place. The guide is also intended to increase footfall in the city centre and make it easy to navigate for visitors. The first independent guide, launched in 2017, was read by 18,000 people and the success has called for a second edition.
This 190 page tour of Sheffield, which is available for free across the city, intends to encourage local people to visit independent stores, cafes and bars rather than usual high street chains. The guide will also be handed out in business meetings to spread the word about what independent businesses Sheffield has to offer. Plus the guide can be viewed online here.
What’s in the Independent Guide?
The feature highlights different areas of the city and why they are so popular, this also includes a handy map. BID’s guide mentions The Moor, which has recently been re-developed into a shopping hub. There is also mention of some local and student favourites including Devonshire Quarter which boasts vintage shopping and pubs galore.
Diane Jarvis, Sheffield BID manager said “Experience Sheffield City Centre: An Independent Guide, is a go-to guidebook for both residents and visitors to Sheffield”. With that in mind the guide has been published in English and Mandarin to ensure it is accessible to as many of the city’s residents as possible.
Not only does it feature retail businesses, but also music venues, with a specific “City Of Music” segment discussing everything from The Leadmill to Tramlines Festival. Sheffield is well known for it’s musical talents so BID feel it is important to celebrate that with locals and visitors.
A visit section offers recommendations of the best food and entertainment for those readers who are not local to the Steel City. This segment features the multiples galleries, museums and theatres which Sheffield is lucky enough to have so many of in the hopes of promoting the city as a tourist attraction. Not to mention the two universities which are world famous and are responsible for drawing in a huge influx of students to the city every year.
So whether you want to read about The Wick At Both Ends or Showroom Cinema, it’s all in the guide waiting to be discovered.
