This February The Lyceum Theatre will host ‘Everybody’s talking about Jamie’. The story centres around Jamie New, a sixteen year old boy who lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie is different from the other boys his age, and the play details his journey to overcome prejudice and bullying to become a star. The play features a host of familiar faces, from Shane Ritchie (EastEnders) to George Sampson (Britain’s Got Talent winner) and Layton Williams (Bad Education) and will air from Saturday 8th February to Saturday 29th February.
The play is inspired by BBC Three documentary ‘Jamie: Drag Queen at 16’, and has been lauded for spotlighting LGBT issues, as well as its feel-good story and comic delivery, receiving a rare five star review from The Times. The play is not only set in Sheffield, but originated here too! It was first performed at The Lyceum Theatre in 2017, and will be returning home for the first time since it moved to London’s Apollo Theatre. There are also plans to release Everybody’s talking about Jamie as a musical film in cinemas featuring stars like Sarah Lancashire and Richard E. Grant. Not bad PR for the city!
