Hillsborough Park welcomes ‘All Lit Up’ to its Walled Garden on Saturday 12th November, giving residents the unique chance to experience the Walled Gardens after dark, admiring light displays made by locals.
The free to attend event runs from 5 – 7pm and is hosted by the Friends of Hillsborough Park, with free refreshments provided by St John’s Church and music played by local musicians and the RivelinCo choir.
Christine Welburn, Chair Friends of Hillsborough Park, said: “We are really excited to be opening the Walled Garden doors in darkness to magically showcase lanterns and lights – most made by local people from willow, tissue and recycled materials.
“Once daylight goes, the lights go on and the garden takes on a sparkling spectacle that cannot be experienced at any other time.”
“Thanks to funding from Compassionate Sheffield and Zest, we have made a giant rainbow with a pot of gold, a menagerie of wild birds as well as other weird and wonderful creatures. It will be a fantastic evening – for one night only… so it’s not to be missed.”
As well as the Walled Gardens display, Steve Pool, working with Sheffield Hallam Being Human project, will light up the library with photos and drawings depicting images of Hillsborough and if you have any photos you want to share, they may even be able to include some in the light show.
Part of the funding for this year’s All Lit Up event is being provided by Compassionate Sheffield as part of the Sheffield Storied from the Pandemic project. This year, they are asking people to bring along written memories of the pandemic – be they happy, sad, thankful or whatever.
There will be a place to post them next to the Rainbow, then after the event they will be buried under a memorial tree planted in the park.
