The twice yearly drama festival returns again this autumn. Enable US is bringing 11 diverse shows to the University of Sheffield’s Drama Studio with the aim of sparking creativity in Sheffield.
The festival’s broad programme ranges from comedy and clowning, to local history and Japanese horror. Opening on 29 October, the festival will kick off with award-winning comedian Brennan Reece’s new show ‘Everlong’ (pictured). Hailed as the ‘teenage Alan Bennet,’ his routine earned high praise when it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival earlier this year.
Later into the festival on 2 November is a drama double bill, and world premiere, from leading British playwright Howard Barker. With ‘Oh Whistle…’ things take a turn to the strange and the scary with two M.R. James ghost stories told by candlelight on 30th November.
All the performances are staged in the intimate Drama Studio and are part of a wider project to bring creative enterprise to the North of England, and allow people to see national shows without having to travel to one of the bigger cities.
Nick Hopwood, Head of Performance Venues at the University of Sheffield said “Many of the shows in this season are fresh from successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It’ll be fantastic to get new audiences in to the Drama Studio to see some really thought-provoking top-quality theatre.”
Many of the tickets are available from £5 from www.enableus.group.shef.ac.uk, or by calling 0114 223 3777.
