If you’re up for an adventure this August, make sure you don’t miss the return of the Sheaf and Porter River Trust’s highly popular ‘Megatron’ tours, exploring the mysterious hidden rivers of downtown Sheffield. Following the sell-out July Urban Caving Tours, more tours have been announced, taking place every weekend in August.
The tours will be led by experienced caving guides from YHA Edale alongside members of the Trust. While you discover the mysteries of the inner city rivers, the guides will talk you through their history, biodiversity and future. As well as the sell-out tours, the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust plan to deliver several other key initiatives in the coming months including river clean-ups, promoting the re-naturalisation of the rivers and fundraising for key projects.
The ‘Megatron’ tours are the latest addition to Sheffield’s thriving outdoor scene, which has seen a growing demand for kayaking, caving, cycling and running in recent months. Feedback for the first batch of tours was overwhelmingly positive: “It was amazing to see a hidden side of Sheffield that a lot of folk don’t even know about, let alone have seen before. Our guides were great; they were very friendly and knowledgeable and pointed out interesting things along the way…It was quite simply one of the best things I’ve ever done!” said local photographer, Dave Johnson.
If you want to tick the ‘Megatron’ cavern off your bucket list, make sure to grab yourself a ticket on Thursday. The first batch of tours sold out in a matter of hours and the eagerly awaited August tours are expected to follow suit.
Tickets for the August tours will be released at 7pm on Thursday 25 July. More information can be found here. For more information about supporting the Trust, check out their Facebook page here.
