A new fringe theatre has opened its doors in Sheffield. Cellar Theatre is a new creative hub aiming to support the local art scene, acting as a space for development, rehearsal and performance in Sheffield City Centre.

Cellar Theatre will run for a four-month season, with the current programme running until the end of June. It will offer an array of performances from local artists as well as theatre companies from across the country. More so, it aims to bring new performances every weekend and will host a variety of themed events including a speak-easy style jazz club, free philosophy of art discussions and comedy nights.

The venue has been fully refurbished, bosting a signature feature, the 1960s green upholstered chairs donated by The Bristol Old Vic Theatre which give it an ambient and warm atmosphere. With a thirty seats capacity, Cellar Theatre’s shows will provide their audience with a more intimate and personal experience, bringing them closer to the performances and amplifying their experience.

Cellar Theatre’s core objective is to provide itself as a creative space that will encourage artistic development, and bring to the public diverse performances and events. The theatre is run in collaboration by Mortals Ltd and DINA Venue Ltd as a non-profit space for local artists. Without a doubt, it is already beginning to establish itself as a safe space for the creative and performing arts scene.
