I’ll bet you never thought that you could combine a love of filmmaking and rock-climbing all at once, well, you can! Because the Brit Rock festival is making its return to Sheffield and it is set to return on October the 24th.
The line-up for this year will be a selection of three short films and a documentary, each one produced by some of Britain’s most enthusiastic and popular climbers. Each entry offers some enthrallingly gorgeous scenic views and some captivating narratives to go with them; each and every one can be caught at the world premiere this October. Here’s a quick rundown of films one through three in the roster, and with a fourth yet to be announced:
CLIMBING BLIND
This 60 minute documentary will follow Jesse Dufton, a young man born with only 20% central vision. Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare genetic disease which slowly wears down the retinal walls, Jesse is determined to go on with his career as a climber despite his failing sight. Lead by his girlfriend and sight guide Molly, Jesse will participate in the Old Man of Hoy Sea Stack competition in Scotland. An inspirational and all-together heart pounding story, and that’s only the beginning!
LITTLE FLAME
A young woman suffering from PTSD, who finds relief through rock climbing and free swimming, is able to enter the Pen Trwyn competition in Wales. This is a heartfelt and uplifting story all about determination and a strong will in the face of mental illness.
The Big Deal
Shot in France and starring Frances Bensley, one of the U.K’s most prolific female boulderers. The film will be a profile of one of the rock-climbing industry’s strongest women, which will follow her trials and tribulations in a revealing, and also visually stunning, story that is as true to life as it is funny.
