After announcing a collaboration with Film4 to turn hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie into a feature-length film, Sheffield-based production company Warp Films have now highlighted plans to cast thirty young people from the city or its surrounding areas to star as part of the Year 11 class.
The award-winning musical, which premiered at the Crucible last year and follows the tribulations of a 16-year-old Sheffielder harbouring ambitions of becoming a drag queen, went on to tour the West End and picked up 5 Olivier Award nominations in the process. Inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell in the Firecracker documentary ‘Jamie: Drag Queen at 16’, Sheffield-born director Jonathan Butterell created shifted the settings to the Steel City and created a dramatised portrayal of a particular period in Jamie’s life.
Shaheen Baig, Casting Director said: “We would love to find a beautifully diverse cast right here in Sheffield. The story is set here and it’s the most obvious place to start our search!”
Applicants must be over 16, ideally from Sheffield or the surrounding areas and previous acting experience is not not needed.
