This month, Sheffield’s favorite fringe theatre Theatre Deli presents work covering identity, the world and our place within it in a programme of theatre, spoken word, comedy, dance, visual arts and film.
Local Black artists will be celebrated in Theatre Deli’s Black History Month Exhibition at Theatre Deli while the programme’s Black History Month contributions include thought-provoking comedy Can I Touch Your Hair? by Lekhani Chirwa (14/10), a screening of 90s horror film Tales from the Hood, executive produced by Spike Lee, alongside a talk from Dr Maisha Wester in Cinema of Nostalgia | Horror (19/10) and sci-fi dance performance about how we raise young men, Exploring the Man | Puberty by Namiuki Dance Theatre (29/10).

Climate Change and the environment are strong themes in comedies Lost at Shore by Sheffield cult act Fish Pie Cabaret (9/10) and the female-lead sci-fi Planet LOL by the future is unwritten (28/10). Enjoy poetry and spoken word in Katie O’Brien’s Catch 22 Years (6/10), which offers an uplifting take on addiction. The Empathy Experiment 2.0 by Rose Condo (7/10) examines our relationship with technology to communicate. Elsewhere, returning artist Rob Gee’s Fruitcake – Ten Commandments from the Psych Ward (8/10) offers a heart-warming look at mental health.
Politics inspire award-winning drama Vessel by Laura Wyatt O’Keeffe (20/10) and northern creative collaborative Next Left’s evening of drama, poetry and comedy Test, Track, Trace (22/10). Already an astounding success with the Deli fans old and new, Theatre Deli’s Pop Up Programme continues with Artist Jam, where artists can use rehearsal space on a pay what you feel basis to create, and will end the month with terrifying immersive theatre with dance and circus in Hip Hop Horror Night (30-31/10) and Hip Hop Horror Party (30/10), the best alt Halloween party in the city for those who dare to stay after midnight…
