Second-hand retailer Glass Onion Vintage has announced it will be making its ‘Recycle With Us’ scheme a permanent fixture. The Division Street store will continue to accept clothing donations from the public, with the aim of raising further funds for Barnsley Hospice.
The ‘Recycle With Us’ initiative launched on September 6, encouraging Glass Onion Vintage customers to drop off a minimum of 3 items of clothing they no longer need at their Division Street store in Sheffield.
In return, customers will receive a £5 voucher which they can spend with Glass Onion in store, online or at their Pop-Up events.
All donations will then be transported directly to the Barnsley Hospice Retail Hub, where they will be sold to generate income to fund the specialist care provided at the hospice.
The hospice has to raise £3.5 million each year to fund the specialist palliative and end of life care it provides for the people of Barnsley, relying entirely on fundraising and donations to achieve this amount.
The popularity of shopping second hand has risen significantly over the last few years, with consumers increasingly aware of the financial and environmental benefits that a more sustainable approach to shopping offers.
For Barnsley Hospice, their retail hub is an integral part of achieving their fundraising target, however, to generate this income and replenish stock regularly, the charity relies on local people donating items they no longer need.
Martine Tune, chief executive officer and chief nurse at Barnsley Hospice said: “We are fortunate that the people of Barnsley are incredibly supportive of the hospice and are very generous when donating items to our retail hub.
“To continue raising as much money as possible for the hospice, we are always looking at ways to generate more donations to the hub. Launching the ‘Recycle With Us’ partnership is a really exciting moment for us, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone at Glass Onion Vintage for choosing to support us in this way.”
Alice at Glass Onion Vintage added: “We are a Barnsley business located just up the road from the hospice, so we are delighted to launch this partnership! We wanted to make it super easy for our customer to recycle their unwanted clothes for an amazing cause whilst also being rewarded for their good deed.
“The hospice does such fantastic work for the local community, and it is great that we combine promoting sustainability with helping to raise funds for the hospice. Two very important causes close to our hearts.
“We encourage all of our South Yorkshire customers to donate with us next time they’re in store to do their bit for the planet and the hospice this Second Hand September.”
