This year is shaping up to be a great one for gaming. And whilst there are plenty of release dates still to be confirmed, let’s have faith and hope developers stick to their word. Here are my personal must-buy games of 2017, and in no particular order…
Crackdown 3 (TBC – 2017)
Crackdown 3 promises to have largely destructible environments, in which you can blow to pieces pretty much everything in an open-world sandbox environment. Much like previous games, expect to go absolutely ape-s**t on your enemies, and possibly your friends. Crackdown on the likes of PS4 and Xbox One should, in theory, be something rather special. And I can’t bloody wait.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (TBC – 2017)
Yes. Yes. YES! The first three Crash Bandicoot games are some of the best gaming experiences of all time, and the fact they’re all getting remastered makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I imagine the masterplan here is to see how successful this little collection is, and then a brand new Crash game will be made based on its popularity.
Dragon Quest Heroes II (28/04)
Dragon Quest Heroes was a good game; however there were some aspects that could’ve been a lot better. I feel Heroes II will do just that by giving us a more expansive world, larger-scale battles, and generally improve on everything from the first instalment. Mmm, slimes…
Final Fantasy VII Remake (TBC – 2017)
Finally, the Final Fantasy VII Remake is actually happening and scheduled for release at some point this year. I just hope people realise this isn’t simply Final Fantasy VII with better graphics, but a complete remake from head to toe, and the thought of that excites me no end. I love the original, and I hope I’ll love the remake, too.
Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (24/01)
After the shambles that was Resident Evil 6, I applaud Capcom for making the decision to go back to first-person survival horror. This is what the series needs: a complete makeover – to bring actual horror back into the equation instead of this OTT action nonsense. After playing the demo numerous times, it’s safe to say Resident Evil VII is going to be a truly terrifying experience. As it should be.
