It’s officially the end of an era as the site of Yankees on Ecclesall Road has been sold.
Yankees was a hit with Sheffielders and students alike for decades. Situated on Ecclesall Road, a stone’s throw from Sheffield Hallam University’s Collegiate Campus and across from the Berkeley Precinct, the distinctive red front of Yankees has always been a welcome sight.
A firm favourite for many locals whether they wanted to tuck into a burger, steak, tex-mex dishes or a BBQ sauce soaked meal, its reputation preceded it as being one of the best food joints in Sheffield.
When Yankees finally closed its doors in 2016, it was with a heavy heart that Sheffield said goodbye. After 37 years, Yankees, which was originally opened by brothers Peter and Michael Freeman in 1979, would be missed.
Now Crossthwaite Commercial has confirmed that the premises, formally Yankees has been sold for £525,000.
Exciting things are sure to come to Ecclesall Road in the coming months, it’s a prime location, right on the corner of Thompson Road leading up to The Botanical Gardens so it’s sure to be something new and exciting.
