I’ve been a long-time fan of Amber Bain, aka The Japanese House. Her dreamy electronic pop is never far from the playlists in our house, and has been ever since I first saw her at the Leadmill in
2015.

She played a Tramlines gig at Bungalow and Bears a couple of years ago, so for me this is a long overdue and well deserved affirmation of her talent. After a series of gorgeous EP releases her
first full album, Good At Falling, came out this year.

The music contains such emotional depth that it can make your brain hurt. The gigs I’ve seen her play previously have lived with me longer than just about anyone I’ve ever seen, and tonight, headlining on the Library Stage, the intensity continued.

There may have been bigger names to go and see tonight, but no audience member saw anything as perfect as this. The songs were almost all from her new album, and she was clearly happy that so many of the audience were word perfect on every song.

It’s hard to be selective but ‘We Talk All The Time’ was a highlight, as was ‘Follow My Girl’. She ended with a superb version of ‘Maybe You’re The Reason’, and for me, Tramlines has never seen a better, more perfectly formed performance.
