Sports Team are a six-piece forged from their time studying in Cambridge. Their Jarvis Cocker-esque frontman brought a charisma unparalleled by many of the so-called indie bands on display at festival’s this summer; even breaking into spoken-word at one point during the gig.
They carried a euphoric sound that utilised three guitarists, proving that guitar music is still alive and kicking, and very much.
Bathed in red, the new track was a rock effort that had the crowd moving to the immense sound of their music. Oversized and baggy clothing was echoing of the American grunge scene.
However, the music transcended this expectation with an accessible rock sound that appealed to the wide demographic turning out to support them. ‘Sleeping Everynight’ was a passionate new track that evoked Cribs-like sensitivity, not lacking in a catchy refrain or aggressive guitar. It was perfectly combined to prelude the frontman’s rock and roll climbing of the riggings. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable gig. Sports Team are definitely ones to watch.
