Exposed Magazine
Theatre Deli has announced it’s lineup of theatre, spoken word, music and circus performances for Autumn. A mixture of alternative theatre, serious discussions and Pantomime will be coming to Eyre Street over the coming months.
Theatre
September will welcome Bismillah to the stage.
“A story of disenfranchisement, social alienation, prejudice, radicalisation and the rock band Queen”. Dean has joined the army, ‘Danny’ has joined Islamic State, ones from Leeds and one is from London. Confined together in a cell in Iraq, the pair discuss the north/south divide, the price of meal deals and dead-end jobs.
Sticking with the war theme, Theatre Deli are also working alongside Fuel Theatre to host Sound and Fury’s, Charlie Ward. Set in 1914 in a makeshift wartime hospital, Charlies Ward focuses on trauma, no-man’s land and of course, Charlie Chaplin.
Discussion
Our beloved NHS turns 70 this year, so Theatre Deli will be hosting an important conversation about mental and physical health. Throughout the course of Sheffield Mental Health Week, Communicate, Tensile Strength and Work in Progress will all explore depression, stress and anxiety through the medium of storytelling and movement. Work in Progress is Jess’s “warm, lighthearted solo show about being Scouse, dancing to Britney Spears and sharing stories of hope”. Whilst Communicate “is a story about the importance of talking, opening up and grieving at the right time and about not letting your past determine your future”.
Christmas
Is it too soon to mention Christmas? The sun’s been gone one day and it’s as if summer is already over. Well if you do want to make plans for the last few months of the year there’s plenty going on at Theatre Deli’s alternative Christmas. You can catch a retelling of everyone’s favourite, A Christmas Carol. Or if Dickens isn’t your cup of tea, why not see Fat Rascal’s “gender bending” version of Beauty and The Beast? A modern twist on a classic fairy tale.
