Tomorrow will see the return of the Sheffield Grand Prix for the 8th time in the city, bringing with it an exciting day of bike racing to our streets. The event has grown to be considered as one of the highlights of the elite circuit series calendar, attracting world-class athletes to the steel city.
The event will include some of the country’s best professional riders, the men’s competition headed up by the new men’s national circuit champion Joey Walker, along with the top domestic professional teams, ensuring a spirited race to the top.
The route begins and ends on Pinstone Street and will see the sweeping sights of Sheffield Hallam University and the Crucible as riders fly by, completing one full lap at 1.4kms. The race consists of criterium racing- incredibly challenging and fast events in which cyclists will compete over a number of laps or within a set time.
The youth races begin at 6pm, but anyone can jump on their bike and cycle the streets in the public ride at 15:30-16:30. And if a life on two wheels isn’t for you, then you can bring your family down to the race village instead for a fantastic night of entertainment for cycling fanatics and families alike, in this free to watch sporting event. Gather around the Town Hall, chow down on some refreshments, and watch as athletes speed towards 35mph.
