Classical Sheffield have announced a full programme and launch tickets for the 10th Anniversary Classical Weekend 2023 set for the 17th-19th March.
Next month will see the return of and 10th anniversary of the Classical Weekend by Classical Sheffield, a group dedicated to bringing together all the classical music being made in Sheffield and the surrounding area. The weekend will see a wealth of talented orchestras, choirs, aspiring soloists, conductors, composers and everything in between.
Jo Towler, Chair of Classical Sheffield, said ‘groups from across Sheffield are coming together to collaborate and create a fabulous Festival celebrating 10 years of Classical Sheffield. With many events free or just a fiver to access, we hope people will come and join us and enjoy some amazing music over the three days!’
The weekend opens on Friday 17 March with concerts from Music in the Round, The Hallé and The University of Sheffield. The following day will see a variety of pop-up performances in the Winter Garden, Samba and Brass Band workshops, community choirs at Victoria Hall, as well as ‘Being Human’, a selection of 10 of local folk artist Kate Rusby’s songs arranged by Kate Shipway.
The event will culminate in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.2, Resurrection at Sheffield City Hall, and the world premiere of the winning piece of the Stella Jockel Young Composer Competition.
