We’re so lucky  to have the Sheffield Children’s Hospital in the heart of the city centre. It’s a specialist children’s hospital, which provides world-class care for children all over Yorkshire and across the UK.  The Children’s Hospital Charity helps to improve the hospital, with children in mind, by creating fundraising events and campaigns. Now they’re coming to you, the people of Sheffield to ask for help with building a better future.

2018 saw the opening of a brand new wing of the hospital after a 10 million pound investment. Now the hospital are aiming to redevelop the Emergency Department (ED), Child Assessment Unit (CAU) and Ward 6. Plus they want to build a brand new Helipad to allow quicker access to the hospital for patients transported by helicopter.

Building a better future: What needs to happen?

The hospital serves 200 children a day in it’s Emergency Department which is also a Major Trauma Centre. Originally designed to see 32,000 patients a year, it now exceeds 60,000 a year so the space desperately needs expanding to cope with these numbers

90 children a year are also cared for on the Cancer and Leukemia ward. This fundraising campaign hopes to increase the number of beds on the ward from 14 to 16. It also hopes to make it a more pleasant environment for patients, including having their own bedrooms and beds for parents to stay with their child.

Finally the Helipad, which could be life saving for children involved in accidents where every second counts. Currently helicopters have to land in Weston Park and then patients must be escorted across the road. Wasting precious time, a new helipad would eliminate this extra complication to the journey.

How can you help?

Numbers wise, the Children’s Hospital will require £14.25 million to make all the changes necessary. That’s where you come in. If you can donate to this great cause, head to the website to donate. Or if you want to take it a step further, you could organise your own fundraising event.

Even if you can’t donate, share the appeal on your social media, spread the word and let’s help improve the facilities at our world class Children’s Hospital.
