If you’re still wanting to have fun but for a low price, here are a few free events and activities happening in and around Sheffield.

  1. Millenium Gallery – Show Your Metal

Opening on Thursday 13 June, ‘Show Your Metal’ will showcase over 100 objects drawn from Sheffield’s Designated Metalwork Collection, recognising the pioneering advances that earned the city a global reputation. Sheffield’s metalworking heritage dates back to the 12th century. In the years that followed, the city has been home to a multitude of internationally significant developments and innovation. Exhibition highlights include works from Cornelia Parker, Otobong Nkanga, and steel specimens used by Harry Brearley.

  1. Weston Park – Sheffield Stories: Caribbean Footsteps

This new exhibition celebrates the many ways that people of African Caribbean heritage have contributed to Sheffield life. The exhibition shares inspiring stories of journeys, culture and heritage, from church, sport and carnival to fighting racism and discrimination. Contributions from later generations reflect on the legacy of those who arrived decades before, while interactive displays explore food, music, games and fashion. Entry is Free.

  1. Free Comedy Night – Industry Tap

Coming back this Wednesday is a free monthly comedy club hosted at Industry Tap, showcasing up and coming comedy from Sheffield. This time you can expect to enjoy belly laughs from comedians Oli Clarke, Dan Lythe and many more! Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy some top-notch comedy in a cozy atmosphere.

  1. We are the Monument – Graves Gallery

Curated by artist Yuen Fong Ling, ‘We are the Monument’ explores the ways in which the plinth can be seen as a social, political and cultural symbol and encourages us to consider the significance of those represented on, or in opposition to, the plinth. The exhibition includes the newly commissioned work ‘Monumentalise’ which is a series of short films made by Ling in response to artworks and objects from Sheffield’s collections. Entry is free.

  1. The Big Swing at Cubana

Every Wednesday at 8:30pm, join Cubanas in Leopold Square for The Big Swing where there is a free swing dance class with a different live band every week, followed by swing and jazz DJ sets starting at 11pm- all for free.
