Sheffield Theatres has won two awards at the 2020 The Stage Awards for Regional Theatre of the Year and Achievement in Technical Theatre.

Its win of Regional Theatre of the Year comes for an unprecedented fourth time, with wins previously in 2013, 2014 and 2017. A new category for The Stage Awards, the Achievement in Technical Theatre Award, saw Sheffield Theatres receive the award for its work on the acclaimed Life of Pi.

Robert Hastie, artistic director of Sheffield Theatres, said: “We are overwhelmed to have won both Regional Theatre of the Year and Achievement in Technical Theatre at this year’s Stage awards. We shared a wonderful 2019 with our audiences, bringing four world premieres to our stages, as well as continuing our commitment to investing in talent across the city with our new creative hub The Bank.

“These wins are a testament to all the brilliant people who make Sheffield Theatres what is it. I’m delighted by the celebration of our fantastic technical and production teams, whose skill and dedication has been recognised for Life of Pi.”

The Stage Awards launched in 2010 to highlight the achievements of theatre companies and individuals across the UK and globally.
