The Rotary organised event Music in the Gardens is set to return to the Sheffield Botanical Gardens after a two-year forced hiatus on Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July 2022.
One of the most popular and largest charitable events in South Yorkshire’s musical calendar, Music in the Gardens will be celebrating its return with a showcase of homegrown talent including Sheffield R&B/Soul artist Kat Eaton, the legendary Dizzy Club and local Jazz favourite, Nicola Farnon.
Kat Eaton has steadily been making a name for herself over the last few years with sell-out shows in the UK and beyond and recently returns from Paul Carrack and Jools Holland UK & EU tours to headline ‘Jazz in the Gardens’ on Saturday 2nd July. Originally discovered through BBC Introducing, Kat’s singles ‘Giving it Up’ and ‘The Joker’ earned her strong support from BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sheffield. Less an artist in ascendancy, Kat’s debut album ‘Talk To Me’ solidifies Kat’s place as an artist already at the top of their game and ready to wow her hometown once again with her powerhouse vocals.
Ticket holders for the originally-planned 2020 show will also be relieved to hear that ELO Experience will finally take to the stage to perform fan favourites such as ‘Mr Blue Sky’ and ‘Strange Magic’ as headliners for Friday 1st July’s show ‘Pop in the Gardens’ alongside local musician’s musician David Spencer.
Andrew Bates, Production Manager for Music in the Gardens said: “We’re excited to finally be back! Music in the Gardens has been a staple in the Sheffield event’s diary since its beginnings back in 2005 and has raised thousands for charity in the process. We pride ourselves on putting on an excellent show that doesn’t break the bank.
“People love to really get in the spirit and bring their own picnic and a bit of fizz, but, likewise, we have a lovely group of food and drink vendors that don’t charge extortionate, festival-type prices. We’re certainly a one-off event in the local area.”
Rounding off the concerts on Sunday 3rd July is The Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, a staple favourite of the festival delivering a packed programme of familiar classics standards everyone will know. The SPO have gone from strength the strength and Music in the Gardens is the highlight of their concert year. Supporting the ‘Classics in the Garden’ concert sees the welcome return of a very popular ensemble; The Keith Peter’s Big Band. Sadly, Keith passed away last year but the band carry on in his name and will provide a sparkling testament to Keith’s legacy with expertly delivered big band standards to kick the evening off. This year, Sunday’s concert starts at a new time of 5pm to take advantage of the evening sunshine.
Tickets cost £26 and £12 for U18’s and are available from www.musicinthegardens.co.uk. Gazebos for parties are still available to hire for both Saturday and Sunday. All profits from Music in the Gardens are donated to charities selected by the organising local Rotary Clubs of South Yorkshire.
