Pinstone Street book store La Biblioteka has announced that it will close at the end of the year, becoming the fourth Sheffield independent to close on the same street since the summer.
Announcing the news on its Twitter page, La Biblioteka didn’t state a reason for the closure but did assure regulars that a new shop could be on the way. “End of an era. We knew when we found this space, almost exactly three years ago that it wasn’t for keeps. Such is the nature of meanwhile use that it allows startups and small brands to make real their ideas without much risk. We honestly never dreamed we would last this long…It’s testament to the support and encouragement of our fantastic customers, friends, community and staff that my question whether Sheffield needed a city centre indie bookshop has been answered. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.
“We’ll be trading with extended hours until Christmas Eve, including an extra special *boozy* pop-up upstairs in the final week, and of course amazing new stock arriving daily. Do come by over the next few weeks, pick up that mag you’ve had your eye on, and a few stocking fillers for your loved ones. There’ll be a smattering of reduced prices across the shop, and the furniture will be up for grabs.”

Whats next for La Biblioteka? The store’s online book shop will continue to trade, with a new product launching this week for “lovers of literature”. News on the new shop will be released in 2019.
