Can we all just take a moment to show some love for fine month of May? Not only does it (fingers crossed) bring sunnier climes as we edge towards the summer months, but there are also TWO bank holidays for us to celebrate – huzzah! So, with the second bank holiday arriving for the final weekend of the month, we’ve taken the liberty of rounding up of a mixture of local happenings for you to get stuck into…

Sheffield Gin Festival – 27-28th May
If bank holiday screams ‘gin o’clock’ to you then quaff in style at Sheffield’s-own independent festival dedicated to the stuff. Taking place across the O2 Academy, a ‘secret gin bar’ and various other venues for the pre/after-parties, the event runs over the weekend and gives you the chance to try a huge selection of gin brands, take on cocktail master classes and stuff yourself with food from the wide selection street vendors on offer.

Aqua-Tek @ Magna – 27th May
Described as ‘an adventure in all things water’, the popular Aqua-Tek play area reopens for the bank holiday weekend. Perfect for the whole family, don’t forget a towel and change of clothes as a drenching is unavoidable!

The London Disco Society @ The Harley – 28th May
The Harley welcomes high-energy party specialists The London Disco Society to Sheffield for a bank holiday spesh. Promoters Mango Disco have been trying to book the globetrotting disco-funk outfit for a while now, and with explosive sets from LDS DJs Naked Jake, Cordz and Tim Ross in the pipeline their persistence look set to pay dividends.

The event will run from 4pm until the early hours, with an exciting mix of bands and DJ’s showcasing the best reggae, afrobeat and funk and soul the city has to offer.
