Last Laugh Christmas Comedy Club

Sheffield City Hall // From December 2

Last Laugh has worked with some of the finest comedians the UK has to offer, and never fails to deliver on a big night of big laughs. This Friday will be no exception, as the first Christmas installment of Last Laugh promises to be a big night of food, drink, laughs, and a cheesy disco, with Jim Smallman, Paul Pirie, Jamie Sutherland and Sol Bernstein taking to the stage. The nights continue weekly through December and tickets can be purchased through the City Hall hotline on 01226 743048.

Emmy The Great

The Leadmill // December 3

With a roster of collaborations stretching from Fatboy Slim to Kate Nash, Dev Hynes (Lightspeed Champion, Blood Orange), Ash, Gabriel Bruce and Noah & the Whale,  artist Emmy The Great is turning pop music on its head, writing in both Mandarin and English, taking influences from folk, electronica and indie. She brings her unique sound to The Leadmill, on the tour of her third studio album Second Love.

Victorian Christmas Markets

Kelham Island // December 3-4

Immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit straight from the get-go with the 24th instalment of the Victorian Christmas Markets. The cobbled streets of the ambient market carry both the traders and craftspeople selling their own unique wares (the ideal place to pick up a novel stocking filler) as well as actors roaming the streets in traditional Victorian dress, all of which really lends to that magical Dickensian Christmas feel the markets never fail to create.

In a brand new £3 million refurbishment, this weekend sees the first of four (the others being on the 10th, 16th and 17th of December) Masquerade Balls in the Ponds Forge Sports Centre. Purveyors of fuzzy pop with a relentless punk energy, Leeds/Notts trio Slowcoaches bring a taste of their new album Nothing Gives (released today) to the PHS ballroom. Support comes from garage punk four-piece The Hipshakes, blues rockers Bad Girlfriend and Sheffield psych punk band Sleep Terminal.
